The Silent Witness program is a national initiative aimed at promoting peace, healing, and responsibility in adult relationships in order to eliminate domestic violence homicides by the year 2010.

NCCADV’s Silent Witness exhibit is a traveling memorial honoring women and children who were murdered in North Carolina as a result of domestic violence.
The exhibit is made up of life-size red figures, each representing a woman or child who once lived, had neighbors, friends and family – whose life ended violently at the hands of someone claiming to have loved them.

How can you participate in the Silent Witness Initiative?

Use the Silent Witnesses in your community to educate others about domestic violence and the loss of life that can result from such abuse.  While educating your community, you will simultaneously honor past victims of domestic violence. Ultimately these efforts can make your community a safer place.

Verizon Wireless a supporter of NCCADV's Silent Witness Initiative displayed the Silent Witnesses for one week at their new store in the Streets of Southpoint Mall, Durham, NC.

The Silent Witnesses were a part of UNC Wilmington's 3rd annual Take Back The Night March and Rally. This was coordinated by the UNCW Office of the Dean of Student's A-Team, a sexual assault peer education group dedicated to educating the University and Wilmington community about the realities of violence against women.

South Granville High School's Peer Helpers displayed the Silent Witnesses during their relationship safety week. Safe Space, the local domestic violence shelter, taught lessons in classes about how to prevent domestic violence.
